Phone Blast to Condemn Turkey’s Escalated Attacks in North East Syria
In recent days, Turkey and the Turkish-backed militias of the Syrian National Army (SNA) have escalated their attacks on the Autonomous Administration of North East Syria, also called Rojava. They have shelled villages and attempted an advance beyond the ceasefire line established by the US, Russia, and Turkey following the latter’s invasion in October last year. The recent shelling has killed a 13 year-old boy and forced civilians to flee their villages. In a separate incident, a drone attack, which the Autonomous Administration believes to be Turkish, struck a car killing 2 people.
This is not the first time that the ceasefire has been violated by Turkey and its proxies. New data shows that Turkey and its proxies are responsible for more than 800 lethal attacks over the last year, including bombings, artillery and drone strikes. The Autonomous Administration fears that the latest escalation may foreshadow another invasion timed to coincide with the U.S. election.
We ask you to call your representatives to alert them to these alarming developments and urge them to act to prevent another Turkish invasion of North East Syria.
When you call, read them this brief script:
I am (your name) and I am your constituent. I am calling to ask you to strongly oppose the recent escalation in attacks on our Kurdish allies in North East Syria by Turkey and Turkish-backed jihadi militias. It is well documented that Turkey and its proxies have continuously violated the ceasefire signed by the Trump administration after Turkey’s invasion in October of last year. The latest escalation may foreshadow another invasion, as threatened by Turkey’s President on multiple occasions. The U.S. must take urgent action to prevent another invasion, as well as to ensure that Kurds are represented in the UN-sponsored Syria peace negotiations, from which they are currently excluded.
I’m asking you to please do what you can to vocally condemn Turkey’s reckless expansionist policy in the Middle East and beyond, including its most recent involvement in Azerbaijan’s aggression on Armenia, and to put pressure on the Trump administration to act to stop this senseless violence against the people of Northeast Syria.
