Why Rojava Matters

Today in North-East Syria, against all odds, an inspiring movement led by Kurdish women is building and defending a society rooted in direct-democracy, women’s liberation, cooperation and ecology. The people of Rojava are proving everyday that another world is indeed possible, offering hope and inspiration in a world plagued by violence and oppression.

ECR is dedicated to raising awareness about the Rojava revolution and bringing people together to support it. Through popular education and grassroots advocacy, we are working to build a bridge of solidarity between communities in North-East Syria and the United States.

ROJAVA IS UNDER ATTACK

Right now Rojava is in danger. After facing years of war and occupation from the forces of ISIS and Turkey, the threat of a major escalation is on the table yet again. Recently, Turkey launched another devastating series of attacks, bombing critical infrastructure, killing civilians, and disrupting vital services. Turkish President Erdoğan is now looking eagerly to the incoming Trump administration to approve an all out invasion.

HELP US GROW THIS MOVEMENT

In times like these, Rojava must not stand alone. That’s why we need your help to scale-up our work over the next year, by expanding our education program, broadening our outreach efforts, and strengthening our engagement in the Kurdish community here in the United States. 

We spent the last year organizing and spreading the word through speaking tours, study groups, articles, interviews, coalition-building, advocacy, demonstrations, and more. This work is only made possible through the support of people like you. 

We have ambitious plans for 2025, but we need resources to see them through. Your tax-deductible contribution will enable us not only to sustain our existing work and a part time staff member, but to launch several new exciting and urgent projects, including:

  • A multimedia education series featuring original artwork and informational explainers.

  • A campaign mobilizing public pressure against any attempt by the incoming Trump administration to back another Turkish invasion.

  • A mutual aid network supporting the Kurdish migrant community in the United States.

A copy of ‘The Political Thought of Abdullah Öcalan’

Originally drawn by Molly as an illustration for the book Brothers of the Gun, co-authored by Marwan Hisham, this unique giclée print illustrates Hisham's uncle's hand-built cafe on the outskirts of Raqqa, its gentle curves and domed roof a tribute to an art that had been practiced for centuries, and a reminder that such artistry can only occur in a peaceful Syria.
