Why Rojava Matters

Today in North-East Syria Kurdish women are leading a movement to build and defend a society rooted in direct-democracy, women’s liberation, cooperation, and ecology. Against all odds, the people of Rojava are proving every day that another world is possible, offering hope and inspiration in a world plagued by violence and oppression.

ECR is dedicated to raising awareness about the Rojava revolution and bringing people together to support it. Through popular education and grassroots advocacy, we are working to build a bridge of solidarity between communities in North-East Syria and the United States.

SYRIA IS AT A CROSSROADS

As a new regime takes power in Damascus, Rojava faces a hostile central government and an uncertain future. After facing years of war and occupation from the forces of ISIS and Turkey, and the recent state-backed massacres against Alawite and Druze minorities, a women-led movement in North-East Syria is pushing for a lasting peace through democratization and a new Syrian constitution that enshrines the right of Syria’s diverse communities to self-determination.

HELP US GROW THIS MOVEMENT

Rojava must not stand alone. That’s why we need your help to strengthen our work over the next year, by developing our education program, broadening our outreach efforts, and strengthening our engagement in the Kurdish community here in the United States. 

We spent the last year organizing and raising awareness through in-person talks at local and regional events, online info-sessions, public statements, study groups, interviews, advocacy, coalition-building, and support for the Kurdish immigrant community. This work was made possible through the support of people like you.

We have plans to keep growing this movement in 2026, but we need resources to do it. Your tax-deductible contribution will enable us to sustain and expand our most important project areas, including:

  • Popular Education: Raising awareness through online workshops, news and analysis, study groups, articles, and creative multi-media engagement.

  • Movement Building: Broadening our web of solidarity through collaborative partnerships, coalition building, and participation in progressive movements.

  • Grassroots Advocacy: Mobilizing public pressure to support and defend Rojava through solidarity campaigns, digital toolkits, and activist empowerment.
